The Opening Sequence

The opening sequence of the film carries a few levels of responsibility. Usually, the opening sequence is a short teaser, providing some story elements.

Sometimes, the opening credits themselves function as the opening sequence. Malcolm X had a powerful opening with the burning of the American flag. Everyone knows that opening sequence for the Star Wars films being the flash of the name “Star Wars” followed by the opening crawl.

Examples of great opening sequences are The Dark Knight, Heat, and Scream.
